Growing up, my parents owned and curated several booths in antique stores scattered across South Texas. At that time, I had little to no interest in the subject, much less getting up at 8 AM on Saturdays to go to estate sales. Antiquin and junkin just wasn't my thing, ya'll. Anyway fast forward to high school and I started to develop a true appreciation for the art of the good score. (I chalk it up to my need to stand out from the 300 people crowd at my high school) About that time my mama decided to let me in on her best kept secret of Antique's Week in Warrenton, Texas.
Texas Antique's Week (http://www.antiqueweekend.com) is basically a large flea market-esque get together that is held twice a year in Warrenton, Texas and stretches over to Round Top. So as you can imagine, it. is. huge. Seriously, I've been twice a year for 10 years now and I still haven't seen all of it. The possibilities are endless, and it truly has something for everyone. And it's not just in the junking department. Also, did I mention there is a prom? You read that right, A PROM! Twice a year, the Junk Gypsies host a fabulous, Junk-o-rama Prom where everyone can dress up in vintage prom dresses, elvis costumes, top hats, no hats, whatever your little heart desires! I have rarely heard anyone talk about it (other than the famed Royer's Cafe, but that is for good reasons. Mmm pie.), but there is some seriously good food going on over there too! I think I might look forward to the food just as much as the buying these days.
Overall, if you haven't been or have been thinking about going then you definetly should get off your computer right now and jump in the car because Antique Week is going on till this Sunday, October 6th so what are you waiting for! In my next post I will discuss my junking experience from this last week and somehow try to explain how I came home empty handed. (If you don't count the home made moon pie)
